Free training on legal aspects of starting a business

 Everyone is invited to the free business classes hosted by Leadership Elk City Class 1, South Western Oklahoma Development Authority, City of Elk City and the Elk City Chamber of Commerce. The next class will be held Monday, April 27, 7–8:30 p.m., and will cover what you need to know about registering your business legally and easily, as well as dealing with the IRS, taxes, withholding tax, workers comp, insurance and costs of benefits.

The training will be held at the Western Technology Center located at 301 Western Drive in Elk City. Participants need to register online at swoda.org/entrepreneurship-training.

Funding for the sessions is provided through a grant from the U. S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration. Topics for upcoming sessions are as follows:

Monday, May 4: Introduction to a financial software program for small businesses. Developing a website. Using the Internet and social media to reach customers and increase revenue.

Monday, May 11: Conducting market research that really works. Developing a marketing/sale plan. Developing and practicing your elevator pitch.

Monday, May 18: Customer service, training your staff, balancing personal and work time. Bonus offering “Effective Networking Skills.”

Monday, June 1: Hiring, maintaining and/or terminating employees legally and keys to effectively leading your team.
