A seven-session entrepreneur training begins Monday, April 13, for prospective, new and established business owners. Sessions are each week from 7–8:30 p.m. at the Western Technology Center Classrooms in Elk City and are free to the public. Participants need to register online at swoda.org/entrepreneurship-training.
The training is a special project of Leadership Elk City Class I, the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority, the City of Elk City and the Elk City Chamber of Commerce. Funding for the sessions is being provided through a grant from the U. S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration. For those attending all seven sessions the Elk City Daily News will award new businesses a special free advertisement and a discount package. Additionally, for seven-week attendees Lenius Technologies is offering a discounted web design service and a one-hour computer consultation session.
Topics for each session are as follows:
Monday, April 13: Starting or growing your own business. Starting a business check sheet. Lessons learned from successful local entrepreneurs.
Monday, April 20: Keys to writing a winning business plan and obtaining financing.
Monday, May 11: Conducting market research that really works. Developing a marketing/sale plan. Developing and practicing your elevator pitch.
Monday, May 18: Customer service, training your staff, balancing personal and work time. Bonus offering “Effective Networking Skills.”
Monday, June 1: Hiring, maintaining and/or terminating employees legally and keys to effectively leading your team.
The Western Technology Center is located at 301 Western in Elk City.
