Youth Experience Summer of Work Through SWODA WIA Program

"'A chance to see what work is all about and money in their pocket.' - That's what some local youth are experiencing through the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) WIA Summer Youth Employment Opportunity. As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (often known as the stimulus package), nearly 40 young people in the eight-county SWODA area will be taking advantage of a summer work experience. Generally between 18 and 24, these youth are working in either a public or private worksite, under supervision, and earning a summer paycheck while learning what employers often call 'soft skills.'" You or the person you know may be eligible to participate in a program to promote economic self-sufficiency for older Americans by providing them with job training and employment assistance. The program known as the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) enhances employment opportunities for older Americans and promotes the worker as a solution for businesses seeking trained, qualified and reliable employees. Public Housing Capital Fund (Formula)

Ombudsman Volunteer Trainings Available in June

"Over half of the residents in long-term care facilities receive no visitors. Loneliness often leads to depression as well as other health problems. Free ombudsman volunteer trainings have been scheduled for June 3-4, 2009, at the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority, Building 420 Sooner Drive in Burns Flat, and on June 10-11, 2009, at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 W. SWODA Ombudsman Volunteers Find Job Rewarding
