The designation also makes the community eligible for special federal funding. Eyeglasses Assistance Available for Older People

"Healthy eyes are something most people take for granted. But there are millions of elderly people in this country who have severe vision impairments. These impairments could be treated and corrected, but many of the elderly can't afford the treatment they need. South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) Aging Services, in cooperation with area optometrists, will be providing reduced cost eye exams and eyeglasses to elderly individuals in your area." SWODA AAA Seeks Volunteers for Counseling Program

"The South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) Area Agency on Aging (AAA), in coordination with the Oklahoma State Insurance Commission Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP), is seeking three volunteers to recruit and train to become volunteer Medicare insurance counselors. These volunteer counselors will be trained to help those with questions concerning all parts of Medicare and those who are victims of Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse." (More...)
